The Ma & Pa Remembered bookMa & Pa Remembered - A History of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad
by Henry C. Peden, Jr. and Jack L. Shagena, Jr.
This is the first book in almost 50 years dedicated to America's best-loved short line railroad, the Ma & Pa. Hard bound, 8 by 10.5-inches with a dust cover, this richly illustrated book contains more than 500 pages with almost 200 in color and chronicles the history of the narrow gauge antecedent rail lines that finally came together in 1901 as the Ma & Pa. For 98 years the railroad operated as a twentieth century standard gauge line over a nineteenth century zigzagging narrow gauge roadbed. Therein was its intrinsic charm - a model railroad actually built to full scale.
In addition to 11 chapters on the railroad's history, there are chapters on the bridges, stations, and images of every engine the Ma & Pa owned. Chapter 18 is a collection of fond memories of the Ma & Pa by those who still remember the railroad, followed by a chapter with thousands of names and occupation of those who kept the railroads running. An Epilogue recognizes a number of individuals, organizations, and groups who have preserved the memory of the Ma & Pa by their past work.
This book contains much new material gathered by the authors that heretofore has never been published. It is even described by one reviewer as "The ultimate book about America's favorite short line railroad, the famous Ma & Pa."
Price: $75.00

These photo CDs were prepared by George Morgan and donated to our Society. They contain a total of 79 vintage images of the Ma & Pa taken in late 1940's through mid-1950's. Fifty-nine of the photos are extremely rare color photographs.
Photographs on the first part of the CD were taken at Baltimore, but shots all along the line are included (at Towson, Towson Heights, Oakleigh, Maryland School, Glenarm, Baldwin, Fallston, Bel Air, Gross trestle, Ferncliff, Rocks, Pylesville, Delta, Castle Fin, Woodbine, & York). A printed caption appears at bottom of each photograph.
Each CD is nicely labeled and comes with a protective plastic jewel case.
One CD will be provided as a gift for a $20 or more donation to the Society's Preservation Fund. Please note that the CD is compatible with Microsoft Windows systems only.

Ma & Pa Fan Trip DVDMa & Pa Fan Trip, June 13, 1992
On June 13, 1992, Ma & Pa diesel No. 82, just repainted in its original 1950s livery, pulled a couple of roundtrip fan trips from York to Spring Grove, PA. Four privately owned passenger cars made up this train, the only time that No. 82 had ever been used to pull a fan trip.
Starting as No. 82 came out of the enginehouse at Princess Street and then passed by the M&P's former station at York on East Market Street, Rudy Fischer captured on videotape most of the events that took place that day, including filming the train from trackside at many grade crossings between York and Spring Grove.
This DVD contains just over an hour of footage taken that day.
